Thermostat comparison?

Just wondering if any one can give me a comparison between the helix and the VE brands of thermostats that are for sale on lllreptile? I like the VE initially because of the 10' probe and the fact that the probe and fuse are " easily replaceable". Any pro cons on these two products would be great. And any other options are welcome. I want to be able to run a RHP and probably a Kane heat mat with the thermostat. Thanks for the input.

Re: Thermostat comparison?

I have a customer with a couple of helix, a couple of herpstats and a ve.

He isn't impressed with the helix as one does a random night drop and it is unpredictable.

He hasn't commented on his ve.

He loves his herpstats.

I also own herpatats nd and I love them.

Re: Thermostat comparison?

Those herpstats do seem to be pretty nice. The sticker price is a little high but not a deal breaker. I would still love some feedback on the VE if anyone has it. But if there is a doubt I think I may now lean towards the herpstats. Thanks.

Re: Thermostat comparison?

Ve and herpstats are around the same price. Look up ve vs herpstat and watch the comparison. Its on youtube but the member is on ball-puthons.net

Re: Thermostat comparison?

I have to concur with some of the others, Herpstats are nice. I love my single and the Herpstat 4 is incredible and versatile! They are a bit expensive but, having wrote that I am saving my pennies for another as we speak! good luck!

Re: Thermostat comparison?

I'm wondering if there really is any advantage over spending $115-$150 for those thermostats when you can get the Hydrofarm Thermostats for $28 off Amazon ( Amazon.com: Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats: Patio, Lawn & Garden )?

If there is any difference in temperature regulation, it's going to only be within 2-3 degrees, 5 at most - a lot smaller temperature difference than any creature will find in nature. I can buy 5 of the Hydrofarm ones for the price of 1 of the VE ones.

Re: Thermostat comparison?

There is a huge difference as far as I'm concerned. A proportional t stat is way more efficient than a solid state on / off style.
