Boa bites?

So while feeding my female who has what we believe pyrethrin poisoning, shes none too good at striking and hitting her target, instead she NAILED my hand, then coiled. Oh my god. Needle teeth are the WORST and I have some still in my hand, so far I have picked two or three out and i still feel like there may still be one in there. What do I need to treat it with? I already did the soap and water and some neosporin but anything else I should worry about. Also how on earth do I dig that other phantom tooth out?

thats the problem. I was using tongs. I use kitchen tongs because the exo tera ones suck so hard. She completely missed the rat and nailed my hand. I try holding it by the tail but it usually just slips away

I'll look into it but I really think my tongs are that long, the problem with her is when she strikes she puts her whole body into it and will continue to launch out and with her neurological problems she is really a loose cannon and can launch off in a random direction.

Re: Boa bites?

What about just tossing the prey Item in and not tong feeding her?

My older Royal goes nuts after his food so I stopped tong feeding. Now I just toss the prey Item in on top of a log and he comes and gets it.

With her recent woes I have to hold the prey so she can get her mouth around the head. Otherwise she just kinda dicks around and tries to eat a leg then works to the tail with no real idea of what shes doing :/

Re: Boa bites?

boas stuck at the whole thing some of them just don't get and need to be able to strike and if it's already got problems, i'm sure manipulating a prey item not in their could could be a dawnting task I had a ******** albino once if I threw the warm prekilled in there she would never find it lol searching all day striking at everything that walked past the tub. sometimes they just need it handed to them.

This is what I do for all of my snakes.

Start feeding her smaller rats that she can swallow backwards.

Re: Boa bites?

first of all i would check the snakes mouth,to see if theres any missing or broken teeth

if there is just keep and eye on the snakes mouth for infection, also check for any teeth snagged up on the snakes mouth/lips/gums,etc,i would use tweezers if any are snagged up

re teeth in your hand
they are really hard to see and as far as i know, they don't show up on x rays at the hospital,i got that info from a local woman who went to hospital, after an adult burm struck her with a feeding responce...

i would make up an old fashoined poultice, apply it and it should draw any foreign objects out your wound

cheers shaun
