Worst shed EVER
And I don't even know how. I was misting a ton, (apparently too much, as his log molded...even though it always said 80%), made sure he always had water, temps are at 88 and 78 respectively...what went wrong?? It was so bad, there is skin EVERYWHERE, and I had to bathe him and help him get the rest off. help to prevent this? He did perfect last time, and I changed nothing...

Re: Worst shed EVER
What are your temps/humidity before shed? Have you changed anything about his enclosure? Are you reading his temps and humidity with a digital reader or analog? Could it possibly be faulty? I'm honestly at a loss on what could have happened. I've had a couple of my animals have a really bad shed before and I never could figure it out. I wonder if it just happens sometimes.....

Re: Worst shed EVER
It's always at least 75% in there, and nothing else has changed. My readers are digital, but i guess they could be faulty. I'll get a different one to check. I'm just wondering if it happens at times too, it was so weird. He did get a little scratch above his eye from his last meal, but it's doing great and will likely be gone in 2 sheds (he hadn't eaten in two weeks, and there was NO frozen even close to being big enough which is why he got fed live)

Re: Worst shed EVER
I doubt the scratch did anything to make his shed come off in pieces. If it's a light scratch, give it two to three sheds and it should disappear. He may even shed more often to promote quicker healing.
Like you, I'm stumped and can only guess maybe your reader has gone off. I've had a couple of Wal Mart ones like Wayne uses go faulty pretty quick due to them not being able to take the high humidity my rainbow required.

Re: Worst shed EVER
it was an rzilla one =[ yeah, i didn't think the scratch would do too much. It's not bad at all, i was just afraid it had got his eye at first, but it didn't, thank GOD. guess i'll get a different hygrometer and see what's going on.

Re: Worst shed EVER
Have you ever salt tested your hygrometers? Even if you do buy another one it's a good idea to salt test them. You can google salt test or search on this site. Ssnakess member Skumbo has a link in one of his threads. The salt test allows you to calibrate the hygrometer for greater accuracy.
Good luck!

Re: Worst shed EVER
retics tend to do this as a species. sometimes more than other times. i'm pretty sure it just happens, and if your conditions are proper then your ok. just bathe him till you can get it all off.

Re: Worst shed EVER
You check for injuries and parasites? I'm sure you probably did but just asking in case you forgot

Re: Worst shed EVER
Haha, def no parasites (they'd show up nicely against his yellow), but he did get scratched by a rat, as I mentioned earlier. It's so small though I don't think it did it. Plus it's over his eye, which would really only explain his head not shedding right. =/

Re: Worst shed EVER
VetRx is super cheap. Around $10 and the last bottle I bought lasted 3 years. It's great stuff to have on hand.
