new member needing some advice
im logan and i recently bought a beautiful irian jaya x jaguar carpet she is im guessing about a month or two old she is about 24" long. i bought her and a week later i am hooked i love her and wouldnt trade her for the world. my problem is i noticed last night that she has mites. i know a lot about them and how fast they can spread. i bought some mite off and used it on her and her viv. it says to spary all over her and the tank and repeat if necessary in three days. any other sugestions on how to rid her of them?
i only have one other reptile (bearded dragon) and he is in a totally seperate room.
i will be posting pics of her in a new intro thread tommorow.
thanks logan

Re: new member needing some advice
First off, remove any substrate and replace with paper towels. It's actually best if you remove the snake from her enclosure and put her into a temporaty container.
Spray the enclosure with Prevent-A-Mite, like you already did, and if you're putting her in a temporary enclosure, spray the bottom of that, too. Let both air out. Don't use this on your snake.
Spray the snake directly with Mite Off. Place her in the aired out container over night (make sure it's secure). Spray her off again twenty four hours later and put her back into her original enclosure without substrate.
Every time you do a full enclosure cleaning, spray it with Prevent-A-Mite.
Example of what I use for my snakes:
Prevent-A-Mite and Mite Off:
Oh, and welcome to the site, Logan!

Hi and welcome to the madhouse. Don't have any advice as such other than to say you've come to the right place. The members are friendly and helpful (and mostly mad) ;-)

Mite Off doesn't kill the mites, it deters them from coming into contact with whatever it's sprayed on (in this case, the snake). The problem with Mite Off is that it wears off easily, so it has to be reapplied. That's why I recommend using Mite Off for immediate reliefe for the animal, and Prevent-A-Mite to kill the mites in the enclosure.

Re: new member needing some advice
PROVENT A MITE
HOW TO USE IT SAFELY
1.put snake in a seperate room from where the tank will be sprayed
2.wash water bowl in hot soapy water and place in seperate room from the tank
3.take out all the tank furniture,branches,fake plants,etc
4.OPEN room windows where the tank is being sprayed
5.spray as directed all over the inside of the tank
6.spray new substrate once in the tank
7.spray tank furniture,branches,fake plants,etc
8.LEAVE the tank and everything else you sprayed for 2 HOURS,to allow the fumes to dissapate
9.the snake should NEVER be in the same room, that provent a mite has been sprayed in until at least 2 hours has passed, since the spraying finished
10.put the snake and water bowl back in,but ONLY AFTER leaving the tank, room, etc to have 2 HOURS with windows OPEN to evapaporate excess fumes
DO NOT SPRAY THE SNAKE.....!!!
fumes can be harmfull to you and your snake, hence the open windows and allowing 2 hours for the fumes to dissapate...!!
provent a mite remains active for 30 days, which is longer than the life cycle of mites
it does NOT kill the eggs, but kills the mite the INSTANT it hatches
provent a mite has always worked first time every time for me
cheers shaun
