Ahaetulla prasina info please...
Hi,
I am going to buy an Ahaetulla prasina in a couple weeks, and now I'm at the point where I need to get as much useful information as possible regarding the species, unfortunately is hasn't been so easy to get the info, I've already got the growing parameters(temps and humidity) and some basic requirements, but each piece of information I read only brings me more doubts.. So for now I got these questions, and I hope you guys can help me answering them, I also would like to know some experiences with this snake form the ones that grow it .
I have read that they need to be feed twice a week, is this true?
How big should be the food, I mean, they are very slender snakes so I guess food musn't be wider than the body of the snake as it's done with Corallus boas, right?
I have understood that they need UVB light, but also read that vitamin D sumplements are needed, is this a must?
And as for the temps and humidity, I have read that about 80 to 95° degrees(80 for the cool spot and 95 for the basking spot) and a humidity of more than 80% are good, could you please correct these parameters in case they are wrong.
Well, for the moment, I think those are my doubts, eitherway any extra info would be super accepted!
Thank you.
Best regards,
Abiram

Re: Ahaetulla prasina info please...
I tried to keep a pair once. I had been told by the vendor that they were captive bred and eating tuna-scented mouse pinks. I had the proper humidity and temps (I keep other arboreals, so picking out a proper enclosure and getting it going wasn't that unusual for me). However, neither ate for me, and both died within a week.
So the only advice I can give you is to make sure you get an established long-term captive, and not a fresh import (I am pretty sure I was lied to about their being CBB). And make sure you get them from a good seller who will stand behind the health of his/her stock. Unfortunately, CBB Ahaetulla are very rare, so most of the time we have to deal with wild caught with them.

Re: Ahaetulla prasina info please...
They are caught, but they look really healthy and the seller(a very reliable one) told me they are eating geckos normally and I am planing to continue feeding them with geckos, so I hope I won't get any trouble in that part.
Thanks for your answers!

Re: Ahaetulla prasina info please...
That should probably be ok. Make sure you get them dewormed and gone over by a veterinarian though. I have a pair of African file snakes, and they were wild caught. As soon as I got them, I treated them both with Fenbendazole and Amikacin. I've now had them almost a year and they are thriving. You just have to be more proactive with WC snakes and make sure they are tested for parasites and treated accordingly.

Re: Ahaetulla prasina info please...
Thanks! I got the snake today, and it is gorgeous!!! I simply loved it, it is even more slender than in pcitures. Wish me luck with him/her.. still don't know what it is, and talking about that... is there an age for being able to sex it?? I mean like in Corallus or Morelia viridis.. is just that it seems so delicate..
Thanks for every answer

Re: Ahaetulla prasina info please...
I would imagine you should give it at least a year before sexing, but with wild caught snakes there is no way to tell how old it is. Use your best judgement. I personally am not steady with my hands enough to even try to sex something as delicate as an Ahaetulla.

I have a couple of horrible pics, I'll post them in a minute. They're really bad because I can't find my camera, so they're took with the mobile phone.
