New JCP
so i just bought (well had bought for me XD, i have a cool aunt who is also into snakes) a young JCP from a breeder in Portland and i'm going to have him around the 5th or 6th of next month and i'm hoping to have built both vivarium by then (one for the JCP and one for that Gonda my corn). can i get some advice on what a jcp would need specificly for its viv. and any pointers for a new jcp owner?

Re: New JCP
Branches they love to climb. Hide at both end, water bowl, and heat. The easy python to keep. Oh and locks on its cage. Can't wait to see pics when you get it.

Re: New JCP
Plenty of places to climb - mine spends half its time in a hide on the floor and half the time up on some perches.
A pair of gloves! Our wont come out of the viv without biting at the moment - the glove prevents me from snatching my hand away instinctively and hurting the snake - once he is out i take the glove off so he is gradually getting used to the smell/feel of "me"
Food bigger than you could imagine - ours is on medium mice (will be switching to similar size rats after reading advice on here) - the one he ate last time was almost as big as the "large" mouse that my adult corn eats (and he pounded two down as i had a spare!)
Am sure Shauny will add to this as our resident Carpet expert - he has been a great source of advice for me with mine.

Re: New JCP
its pretty much all been covered by the above
what age is the jungle in question ?
i'm figuring 2 to 4 months old.
you would most likely get away with a 2x2x2ft vivarium.carpets are good eaters and usually dont have the same security issues as other species.carpets imo appreciate the space
imo if it eats ok in a viv that size it could be kept in there for the first 2 years
then straight into a 4x2x2ft viv that would do it all its adult life.
that said at least 2 hides 1 at hot end 1 at cool end.
branches are a must and a few fake plants would be a bonus.
get it eating rats as soon as you can.
the reason being they are very hard to get onto rats the older they get
an adult carpet will eat a medium to large rat every feed if its stuck on mice it would take 5 to 10 mice to do the same job as the bigger rats.
cheers shaun

Re: New JCP
I would jump straight into a 4 x 2 x 3 tank. As long as you give him 2-3 hides, a large water bowl, heaps of branches. Every carpet i have ever owned has gone straight into their adult tank when juvies as IMO if they have hides they will appreciate the room.

Re: New JCP
if i have a smaller tank and dont have the full size tank i would use the tank as long as i could, im im going to build a cage, do as percey said, its no different provided you give them enouph security to fell safe and your only building 1 cage instead of 2. Grats on the carpet, soon you will be a morelia addict if your not already feeling the bug lol

imo as long as it eats your right mate it can be done
it would work with 99% of carpets ive owned
there have been a few nervous carpets that it would not have suited though mate
cheers shaun
