My new jungle carpet python baby :D

this is only my second thread on this forum so HI everyone! hehe. i'm totally in love, picked up this little guy/girl from my local aqautics/reptile shop. It's gorgeous . very underweight at the moment because it was a poor feeder to begin with and has only recently started eating properly! It is a late 09 and apparently is a jungle jag sibling but i really think it's just a jungle carpet python and either way i don't mind, it's still beautiful . Have since offered it a mouse and it ate it eventually (yay!) Hopefully it continues to eat well. it's has a lovely temperment too! was apparently a snappy youngster but it has been fine with us when we took it out for a few minutes yesturday. Now just got to leave it for a week to get used to its surroundings! thats going to be so hard! lol.

And lastly a picture to show how teeny this snakey is

Sharp looking jungle/jag sib. I didn't see any hides in you cage. You should put one on the hot end and one on the cool. I would make sure They're flat on top. All of my carpet spend 70% of their time laying on top of their hides.

Re: My new jungle carpet python baby :D

nice pics and really nice snake.

re eating i'd try and get it on rats as soon as possible.you could start with a couple of rat pups.with it being late 09 im sure a rat fuzzie would be ok size wise.the reason im saying this is if you leave it too late some carpet pythons will not cross over to rats.so when they reach adult size you will have to sit and feed them a fair few large mice every meal time.that will be a pain for you and also your carpet wont get as much nutritional value out of multipule mice as it would out a medium or large rat.you can scent the rats with mice to get them onto rats.

re is it a jungle
its really hard to tell a jungle from some jungle jaguar siblings.the only 100% way to know is from the guy who bred it.i must admit it does look like a jungle but so do a lot of j/j siblings. if the shops telling you its a jun/jag sibling then i would go with that.you could also ask them to put you in touch with the breeder, that way you would be 100% sure.it only really becomes a problem if you want to use it in a pure jungle breeding project.as it was sold as a j/j sib theres coastal genetics in there so putting it with a pure jungle would not produce pure jungles.

either way its a very nice looking carpet.whats it like temperament wise ? ive found a lot of carpet hatchlings to be quite bittey little guys.

like marvelfreak said it would be good if you could give him a hide in the hot and cold end.if you put a few more canes in for him to climb and hang off.dont get me wrong he will hang off just the one.i find it more interesting when they're hanging off 2 or 3 branches at the same time.these are just suggestions pal as everyone has their own way of doing things.a word of warning though,i started with one carpet python and 1 year later and ever since ive kept carpets into double figures.they're very addictive .....!!!

cheers shaun

Re: My new jungle carpet python baby :D

She's absolutely beautiful. You're lucky to get such a calm demeanor, most young carpets are nippy. For example, when i got mine, every time I'd walk past her cage she'd follow me striking at the glass.

You really need some hides. The smaller the better. Ideally you need a hide on the hot side and cold side, but in my experience, she'll probably end up just sleeping on top of the hot side hide, and inside the cold side hide.

Cute little one- is it feisty? JCPs can be quite a handful as babies, but usually grow up to be sweethearts.

Yh i want to put it on rats but it's only just started eating mice so i don't want to risk it just yet. Gonna continue with mice for a week or so and then try rats.

Temperment is fantastic! we were told it was nippy and quite agressive still but it's absolutley fine, no biting or striking or anything.

Nope, not nippy at all,was told it would be nippy but it really isn't.

As for hides, we really do need to put some in but the RUB is tiny, i really have no idea what to use for a hide lol.

Toilet paper tubes work well, a small yogurt cup inverted with a hole in the side, etc.

Be creative, no need to spend money on a hide.

Re: My new jungle carpet python baby :D

Might I suggest the cadillac of hides.

No carpet should be without it!

i dont want an arguement but you cant just say " yes thats definatley a pure jungle " just because it looks similar to your jungle.she was sold it as a jungle/jaguar sibling so thats exactley what id class it as unless i spoke to the breeder and he said other wise.jun/jag siblings and pure jungles can look exactley the same.but they are most definatley not the same.one is pure jungle and the other has coastal in its genetics.as ive said this would only be a problem if you were trying to breed pure jungles.they would come out jungles with a dash of coastal in them.its a very nice looking carpet.i am not having a go at anyone its just carpet bloodlines get so mixed up due to people not knowing exactley what genetics make up their snake.cant wait to see pic's of him after he's had a few more sheds.
cheers shaun

Re: My new jungle carpet python baby :D

i didn't say he was a pure jcp.... he probably isn't....i was saying he definently has some jungle in him... you probably shouldn't read into a reply like that... and i am definently not a breeder... so please don't take any of this the wrong way... but i was just trying to confirm the owner that there definently is some jungle in him....they look identical from what i can see
