Help in identifying the snake:

Hi all! First post here. Just wondered if anyone could help me identify this snake. Found the little thing right outside my door. I live in East TN.

TIA

Ang

Looks like a corn snake to me. Milk snakes have a clear belly I believe.

Re: Help in identifying the snake:

Hey guys,
This is my first post. I just found a snake and have decided to keep it. Can anyone tell me what it is exactly so I can best care for it? My suspicion is that it's a garter snake. It's still very much a baby. The pictures exaggerate the size a little.

The pics are really small so I can't so for sure, but it doesn't look like a Garter....to light of a tan color.

I'm guessing it's something else.....is there anyway you can get larger pics up?

P.S I actually did a search for some.....try putting a search for this Thamnophis ordinoides see if that matches your snake...

Re: Help in identifying the snake:

Thanks for the help. I would've stayed confident that it was a garter snake if you hadn't told me it wasn't. Turns out it's a brown snake or "dekay's snake". It's kind of upsetting because they don't grow big at all. I was hoping to find a snake that would at least grow big enough for mice. I guess I'll set the little bugger free. Not what I had in mind for a long-term pet.
