heating pad

I am going to make a cage for reptiles and I was wondering what would happen if I put a heating pad on plain wood. Would it burn the wood or would the heat not go through the entire cage?

It all depends. Depends on the wood's thinkness, the size of the enclosure, the size of the heating pad, the amount of heat the pad puts off, etc. I would say that most of the heat would dissapate and be wasted, a spot lamp would be better.
