cage

hey we had our beardie in a 50 gallon and it seem alittle small so we went to yard sells and found a sheet of glass that is roughly 4 feet and the rest we just built out of wood, it is 4 feet long 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall it is huge but we plan on having a couple females for company. i would check in to it.

thanks for the help, and its not about price im not looking for a "cheep" enclousure. the gawd. I wanted to uprgrade right away and i found that the september show was too far away. also im dont really like getting second hand terrariums but thats just personal prefference. I will look into something bigger for sure... probably a custom terrarium but for now a 50 is just fine since my beardie is just a juvie. the 50 looks a little big for him now even

big alls aquarium service.. they sell there tanks at near cost.. just over $1 a gallon..

so a 75 gal would probably run 80-90 bucks.. there is one on lakeshore i believe

heres a link

http://www.bigalscanada.com/store_lo...e_location.htm

p.s. 55 long is a bare minimum... imo its to small..

The minimum size of tank for an adult bearded dragon is 4'x2'x2' (though some height can be cut back, say to 16" at minimum). A 50 gal long tank is typically large enough.

Though with the amount of inbreeding in the North American population of bearded dragons (due solely to the fact there isn't much fresh blood coming in anymore, so just about every dragon in existance in north american is,in some way, related to every other dragon in NA. A few breeders have been importing fresh blood from Germany and other European countries. Because of this, bearded dragons are not attaining as large a size on average than they did in the past.

I am always one to believe bigger is better. So getting as large an enclosure as you can financially and space wise. The cage I had built was 5'x2'x2' and my bearded dragon was about 19" at year and half of age. (that was when I had to sell her, sigh.. so don't know if she grew more). In that large cage, she would run all over it, exploring and chasing crickets. She didn't move that much when I had her in the 35 gal long tank for her first 4 months with me (moved her at about 6-7 months of age into her adult tank).

If you friend is willing to build you a cage, you deffinitely should let him do so (or her). Just pay for the wood, offer something for their time and you both wind up happy. Other than material costs (and fixtures) my cost for getting my cage built was the cost of a 40 oz bottle of rye. (I don't recommend this 'reward' to a minor of course.)
