'05 Irian Jaya Jaguars Hatching!
Our '05 Irian Jaya Jaguars started hatching late last night. From what we can tell so far, there are a few with some crazy patterns! Again, this was a joint project with Yasser & Cheyanne of Spitfire Reptiles. I'll post more pics as they start emerging from their eggs.
Enjoy!

Remember, this is a Carpet-to-Carpet breeding (Morelia spilota x Morelia spilota). Irians and Coastals are VERY similar snakes, and some would even argue they are not different enough to merit subspecies status. They are basically locality variations of the same snake. With that said, it's not at all the same thing as crossing a Retic to a Blackhead. Besides, the Jaguar is a genetic mutation; something you won't find in the wild. These are "designer" snakes bred for color and pattern, not for their purity. It is our intention to bring the Jaguar gene over to the Irian Jaya and we have to start somewhere. I know of a few European breeders that are already producing 75% Jungle Jaguars.

On a side note, I remember getting into a arguement with a buddy of yours ages ago about crossing the subspecies (which I supported back then). I think he runs a morelia forum or something. He's in the States as well. Can't remember his name though. Do you still talk with him? And what's his view on crosses? He was totally against it back then. It started on queensnake when a guy posted a pic of a wicked Jag and I said it would be cool to get some Jungle into it. Then this dood who I never heard of started ripping into me. Always wondered what happened to him.
Best of luck.

Wow!!!!
Its got to be amazing to see them reveal their patterns as they slide out of the eggs. I wish I could see it in person.
As far as crossing goes, I beleave as long as they are labled properly when they are sold there isnt a prob.
I heard on anouther post that hybrids are sterile, is this true in all cases. Is crossing what creates hybrids?
Sorry its been along time since i took genetics in high school, though i did well its really rusty.
again awsome snakes cant wait to see more pics.
peace
