Afro Owners

I havent posted often on here but i do have a question about afro rocks...I know in the wild they can get to extreme sizes but it is quite rare to find one of such a large size in captivity.
If you can remember back to when you first bought yours...how fast did it grow yearly? My Female Afro ( Fade) is maybe a year and a half old...She was older when i bought her cause no one at the pet store was willing to take on such a commitment. She was between 3 1/2- 4 ft feet when we bought her... i measured her about 2 months ago and she was about 6ft. Now she is hair over 7 ft. My question is...do they grow at a constant rate? if you keep their feeding pattern the same?

Fade is one of the nicest pets i have ever owned...and very smart...she is super tame, and not at all skittish toward anyone. She even will even stretch out against her cage wall when i come into the room wanting me to hold her. She is beautiful and curious. Its nice to see so many people on here caring for these respectable animals. Most other people turn up their noses at them and proceed to tell a story they heard of a giant captive snake eating a person alive........LOL i hate those stories. Ignorant people who believe those tales have no respect for these beautiful animals...how someone can be afraid of such animals is understandable...but how someone could hate them is beyond me.

Ohh... when i first read this topic tittle i thought you were looking for people with really large hair. LOL

Now, for real, Python sebae (and i should know because i have had several) grow very quick when they are young, just like burms. However, they almost seem to stop when they reach about 10 feet or so. They keep growing very slowly. Knowing that they can reach a huge size, i would say afrocks live quite longer than burms.

Dom, what did you breed your female rock with?
Was it a normal male rock or something else? (just curious).

I have a question for you Dom... from reading your past posts...your large rock isnt so friendly anymore so i read...when she was smaller and younger was she really tame? or just able to be handled...
or is it common for Rocks to get more aggressive as they grow older and larger?

Jimmy David:

She was bred by a tiny 7 and a half foot 5 yo male .. normal .. Quite funny to see a 10 pound snake on a 100 pound snake .. Not sure is she is gravid or not anymore ... honestly .. I am never home to see her.. She is in the blue now so if she is its should be soon but her actions seem to point not gravid anymore....

Frosty:

She was a bitch from day one .. BUT .. the advantage was that when she was small I could handle her knowing if i got bitten it would not be serious. She would eventually tollerate it as long as there were no sudden mvts and my hands were never in the wrong place ..

Then she got bigger and I got more scared of her lol .. ( I mean scared... if you have a 100 pound crazy snake who alwasy try to kill you and ure not afraid you havn't realized yet the danger of the animal) So i left her alone and tend to her needs with as little contact as possible.. I treat her like a venemous snake. Same type of housing and techniques.. She is moving cages tomorow and i put her in a huge tupperware today .. first time in a few month I touch her ..

Let me tell you .. largest adrenaline rush .. my pulse was at 140 lolShould of mesured my tension!

Anyway .. she was crazy and she is crazy and she'll be crazy!

The majority of babies can be tame .. I have tamed rocks but this one simply did not stop looking at me as a threat ..

Ciao
Dom
