Smallest snake Ive ever seen!

Okay,

This has got to be the smallest snake Ive ever seen.. I just had to post it:

Its a ring neck snake found in Brisbane, it is venemous yet harmless...

I just cannot get over its size!

What does it eat? Pinhead crickets, very small fish?

yeah Im pretty sure they arent venomous. They eat worms, manders and just about anything they can fit in their mouth, I hear they will even eat snakes.

Fangs and venom glands

Technically it IS venomous, but it can't really bite and the venom is harmless to humans. It is not even considered venomous despite its physiology.

We have TONS of them down here. We have both the Southern and Northern Ringnecks. The largest one I have ever found was 18"!!! They feed primarily on small insects and worms. They may not bite, but they are very good at musking. They are also toxic to ophidiophages.

While Crowned Snakes and Ringnecks are similar, they are not even in the same Genus.

Very cool link but the species in question is the ringneck snake (Diadophis punctatus)

Quote:
From Tennant, 2003 (Snakes of North America, Eastern and Central), page 74
Harmless to humans and traditionally classed as nonvenomous, ringneck snakes actually have a mildly toxic saliva to aid in overcoming their small prey.
Quote:
From Tennant, 2003 (Snakes of North America, Eastern and Central), page 75
The salivery glands of this group secrete enzymes that slowly immobilize their tiny prey, but ringnecks almost never bite when handled and are not dangerous.
Garter snakes are also venomous. Bryan Fry's proved that nearly every colubrid is (his site is www.venomdoc.com). I have amylase in my saliva to break down starch. To a potato I AM VENOMOUS!!
