Some Pics for you All :)

Hello all,

These are some pics of my adult female northern ringneck snake, nicknamed Giant, because of the fact she is 20 inches long. Very awesome snake, it's getting hard to supply food for her though, so if you can possibly get me some salamanders in the 3 to 7 inch range, that'd be great. She'll also take frogs.

Here is a pic of her compared to an adult melanistic eastern garter snake

Here is a possibly better one

Giant laid 5 eggs over a 3 week time period for unknown reasons, here is a pic of the last 3 eggs she had that survived, the yellowish looking one went bad soon after this pic was taken

Here is Giant in a battle with a 4 inch northern slimy salamander, she grabbed the sally and started chewing on it's neck right away, the sally died a few minutes later, this is a pic of her chewing on it's neck

Here is when she was almost done eating it

Here is a pic of a smaller male northern ringneck snake pulling a shorthead garter snake neonate out from under a rock to eat, him eating the little snake was a accident, a accident that I didn't feel like stopping

Here is a shot of the ringneck winning the battle

PLEASE DO NOT be offended by the last 2 above pics, the shorthead garter snake was in a tank with the ringneck, I, did NOT know the ringneck snake was a snake eater, I just looked into the tank to see the ringneck clamped onto the shorthead

You did not know?! lol! Funny Michael. Seeing as you are supposedly one of the loudest mouths on the ks forums on ringnecks, you gotta be kidding when you say that you don't know about the ringneck being a snake eater. I call a troll!

On the other hand, those ARE informative pics, but sorry....can't help ya out with sallies for food.

You need a better camera man! Can hardly see the action, plus close ups of your albino would be nice.

No no no, you two obviously did not understand what I was talking about, that is a northern ringneck snake, they RARELY EVER eat snakes, I was not aware that the one I had did infact eat snakes. I know I need some pics of the albino, will do as soon as it comes back from it's vacation with another breeder in Cali. and I do really need a better camera, but those pics aren't too bad.

Like I said, I was no aware that the ringneck I had ate snakes, I've only ever had 2 adult northerns that did, it's just rare.

From what I've read, regals aren't the only ophidiophagous ringnecks. Don't matter much to me. If it was an honest mistake, I hope it was a learning lesson as you could have used a more common garter (T. sirtalis ssp.) than a brachystoma as it's "companion".

Still good to have a ringneck person on board. Get more pics man!

No controversy about snakes eating other snakes, just that I thought Michael would have known better about the northerns being ophidiophagous. I may have been wrong. Either way, we'd like to see more pics Michael!

I'll try and get more pics, lol but come on, that costs money. I have a 35mm camera, so I have to take film to get developed and then get the pics sent to me so I can get them online. Total cost, $11.

Northern ringneck snakes typically won't eat snakes, ever. Their main food items are worms and salamanders. The western sub-species on the other hand, have snakes as their main food item, and the ones that I have had wouldn't even give 2 looks at a worm or salamander. Although some of the Western ones do eat salamanders, ones that are found near streams or in moist places.

I'm still trying to get hold of some salamanders, I found one yesterday that would've made a good meal for Giant, lol but the little SOB crawled into a wall. When I do get more food items, you can bet there will be pics coming though.

well I actually have good news about my salamander crisis, I happened to find one yesterday, when I went to feed it to Giant she would attack anything that moved in the tank(even her reflection)because the smell of salamander was in the air, and she was in shed. I took avantage of that, tried to trick her with scenting a pinky with the salamander(which the sally was about an inch and a half long, not a big meal for her). I placed the pinky on a piece of bark after rubbing it's head into the salamander. Giant grabbed it and started chewing, but then let it go and moved on.

So I grabbed the pinky and rubbed it's whole body into the salamander, the salamander released alot of slime on it too. Then I held it up to her face and she took it right from my hand. I held it there for a few seconds to make sure she had a good grip on it, and she ate the whole thing in about 3 minutes. I got pics of that as well.

Oh and I have tried scenting pinkies with nightcrawlers, salamanders, fish, and neonate snakes before. Giant didn't seem intrested at all. The only reason she took the pinky yesterday was because she smelled food, but couldn't clearly see it, so whatever smelled like food would be food.
