First Time- I Got Bit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I got nailed for the first time last night, I woke ol Plissken (my BP) up to handle him, touched his side as usual to let him know I was there, lifted him up,but when I reached my other hand towards him to support the back half of his body, the %$#@& bit me! Man I wanted to beat him with a rolled up newspaper, but instead I just continued to follow through with some gentle handling. I think when I reached in with my second hand I went to close too his face and hes realy head shy so, my bad.

Seriously though, was this odd for mt BP to bite me? I expected my Black Blood to bite maybe but not my BP. Everyone seems to say they never bite, it kinda makes me feel like Ive failed or missed something along the way.

Anyone who says they never bite is simply wrong. All snakes can and do bite sometimes. It's just the way it is. You didn't fail or anything like that. When owning snakes, you get bitten. Just a part of the hobby.

I always tend to approach and pick up my bp's from behind them. That way, they would have to do some freaky spin-around and bite thingee. If you approach them from the front, they tend to get very defensive, and may strike.

very odd..
i have yet to be bitten by a snake,lol..im just waiting..i know it will not be by our ball, but maybe our burm since it already bit my fiance,lol..

Ball pythons may definetly bite, its just quite rare. Sometimes it's not a mistake of the owner, simply the snake felt threatned in the situation or was confused. Welcome to the club, as has been said! I've been bit my a marble geckos twice, a crested gecko twice, my savannah once(he missed the superworm i was holding), a rat snake, a king snake(i still have the scare from 6 mths ago!), and my blood python the minute i got her in the airport, and 8hrs later! LOL. I think thats it! BP's may bite, but normally don't. The first bite is always the worst! I feaked out the first time my rat snake bit me, now I dont even care if anything bites me.

LOL, I was bitten by my Demetae, she was recieving baytril at the time and wasn't impressed with being forced to take yucky medicine, and so after I fed her a mouse and figured she was done I attempted to take her out and she struck at me, drew blood but didn't hurt. I sat and laughed and then gave her another mouse since I figured she must still be hungry. Nailed it the minute that it hit the bottom of her feeding tank.

i have been bit bye a baby ball and like other people have said here it was no big deal but from experience when you get bit in the face by a 7 ft boa it tends to make you sit up and notice.i kept a goatee for about three years untill the scar faded enough...see ya all at the taras show!!!!!!!!!

i was going to take out my BP one time, i did the same thing Beaglegod did. (reached in there, and touched him on the side as not to startle him.) he didnt really do anything. I turned my hand to put it under him and he bit me on the inside of the wrist, right where all the veins are are. i instictivly jerked my hand out and was rally stunned. 30 seconds later i had a huge blood blister, and my wrist was bleeding like crazy and a little swollen.

Tortise man- It didnt really hurt when he bit me, it hurt more a minute later though. Kinda like a sharp sting. It is more shocking than painful. My BP was about 3 ft long then, im sure bigger snakes would pack more of a punch though. Once you are bitten once, you are more careful though.
