Who Lives With Who?
i have a male and a famale water dragon that are about 20 inches long. They live in a 6 ft by 6ft by 3ft cage and i was wondering if i could put another pecies in the same cage. I have soooo much room and i just feel like im wasting it when i only have two water dragons in it. So can i mix species and if sooo what should i put in there with them????

You might get away with one more of the same size and age. But as soon as they become Adult's you might run into problems.

A basilic of the same size would do
I use to keep 3 water dragons together, 1 male and 2 females. Never mixed up species but never had any that needed the same environmental needs. I see vivariums created with chineese water dragons, australian water dragons and basilics mixed up together.

From what I hear you can mix chinese water dragons, aussie water dragons and basilics, but nothing else. Its best to keep the ratio 1 to 2, one male two females, never two males

This no mixed species stuff really has to stop.. Water dragons posses many subspecies with similar to identical care and attitude. You can house other australian water dragons, striped water dragons, basilisks mountain horned etc. They do fine granted they have the space to do so, and are all fed equally and accordingly to their individual size.
Obviously you dont put a water dragon with any monitor species, or croccidillian! but you cant rule it out completely with like species.

I've also kept water dragons. Thought its true that usually its preferable to keep species separate, these guys areamong the more sociable of the herps i've worked with.
Afterall, out in the wild they are running around with all kinds of other lizards. provided the cage is big enough and food is abundant, they should get along fine with aussie WDs and basilisks.

the reason why alot of people say one herp to an enclosure is for the safty of the herps, you never know when one might have a really bad day and just rip the other one to shreds. You never know, it MIGHT happen.
Plus if one gets sick they both get sick, and you won't be able to tell who IS sick so you have to take both to the vet. Doubling your vet bill.

Er... I'm not sure if it was just badly written in one of the earlier posts, but Basilisks are NOT particularly closely related to water dragons.
Seeing as how water dragons are agamids and basilisks are iguanids... And many of both groups are fairly fresh imports... and the environmental conditions aren't identical (Basilisks like higher temps and more intense UVB)... It would be a poor idea to mix basilisks in there.
