ebay info please

When we order an article from ebay (USA) shipped in Canada.

Do we need to pay custom charges, taxes, etc...

For the ones who have allready done it, please tell me anything I could end up paying wich wasn't planned.

I ordered a scale and now I'm kind of scared I'll have surprise charges once it goes accross the border.

The day after I ordered this item, I learned that ebay.ca existed ! If only I would of known..

Thanks guys.

WYZ

Yep duty will have too be paid as well as a handling fee from canada post shouldn't be too much though as the scale probably only cost you about 30 bucks so expect another roughly 10 in fees. That depends on what the seller put as a value when they sent it though.

I ordered from the states many times before.
Here is what you should do.
As often as possible have your item shipped via usps. Their standards for custom taxes is not as high as ups or fed-ex.
UPS is the highest one and they like to steal money from people this way. They charge you for the custom taxes, they tax you for the value of the item, and also apply some fees for the person who checks your package at the customs. (here are some costs that ups charged me every time I got shipped by them:
- Hovobator, paid 26$ us, custom charges: 32$ us, adding 26$ comes up to 58$ adding taxes on it.

USPS all the way, and 2nd option is ground united postal service.

Thanks !

I just checked the emails of the 2 items I ordered and both were shipped with USPS.. lucky guy

And how does it work ?
they call you from the airport, you give your credit card # ?
Do I need to pick it up at the airport or is it shipped at my house ?

Give me as much detail as you can,,, thanks again

It comes to your house in the regular mail or you pick it up at the closet post office, not the air port :P You pay for the duty etc when you pick it up... The best thing to do if to tell them to ship it as a "gift" then you dont pay any duty or taxes... The problem is if its from a large company they cant do that, due to the ammount of exports going out, they can write gift but you will still have to pay for it since they can see it is probably not a gift :P

If you order a gift yes it's 20$ but if the person who ships the item to you declares it as a gift, then it's a value much higher, I didn't see the limit yet but I did order an item of 400$ and didn't pay custom fees for it since the person sent it as a gift.
