also, I wanted to ask you: What do you feed him as a staple diet? I have read that cat or dog food is good, and then I read somewhere else that it is too fatty for them. Thanks

Eek! I am against the dog food, cooked meat, and eggs. Ravi's book says they are not good for them, and to try and keep steady with a live diet.

Right now he eats crickets and some mealworms here and there. He likes the crickets better though cuz it's a cat-mouse chase! I give him 5 crickets a day or 3 crickets and 2 mealworms. I'm keeping an eye on his weight though, cuz savannahs can get fat if they don't exercise enough. But I'm not too worried about him, after all, he is a growing boy!

He is approximately 3 monthes old and just about the darned cutest thing I've ever seen, but I guess my opinion is pretty biased. His setup is not his permanent one at all. He is in a 20 gallon tank, but I'm getting a 30 gallon or bigger soon just because this is becoming too cramped for all the crap I want him to have. And my bulb situation (sigh!).

Besides, he's going to be 3-5 feet long when full-grown, so a 20 gallon won't do. He's gonna have an 8x4x4 enclosure when he's full-grown. Do I care what my husband thinks about that big of an enclosure in our house? Nope! hahaha!

Lemme know if you want to see more pics. I have TONS! And I have a digital so I can always take more.

Thanks for the info! I would LOVE to see more pictures, and I'm sure everyone else wouldn't mind some more, either.

cute little Sav u've got there, just one thing. It doesnt sound like it is being fed enough, though it looks healthy. I don't mean to be critical because I am by no means an expert in Varanids but I have two savs both smaller than him and they eat a dozen or more crickets everyday..each. So I thought you could probably give the little guy a little more to eat, since he is a growing boy
Good luck with him

Cheers, Kyle~

It's adorable. I remember when my little guy was that small. now he's closing in on 3'. Time flies.

As for feeding, i agree with kyle. When they are growing, i don't believe they can be fed too much. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

regardless, enjoy him.

gee, do you like your camera or what? haha.
Cute little guy..

few suggestions for ya.. Is that calci-sand? or sand? if it's either get him off it. they swallow alot of it while eating crickets if you didnt notice. Go outside, dig up a nice amount of dirt and throw it inside. savs love to burrow, and it holds humidity much better than regular sand does!
