So what is your Heating and Subtrate choices?
Like the topic says, Im curious to see how everyone is heating their tanks, and what they are using as substrates. More interested in Adult balls python setups rather than babies.
You dont have to go into too much detail, so if everyone could please just contribute to the thread that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I use news paper, UTH, and a 100w light bulb (not only for extra heat but for the daytime night time period) to bring his and her basking spots up to 90-95f.....(cooler side 75-80)

for the people using the human heating pads. I have one, and with the heat lamp, (I discovered this the hard way) It can get the ground over 120 degrees. But it is adjustable. My concern is that I dont believe it is designed to be used 24 hours a day like the UTH's. Has anyone used a human adjustable heating pad for any significant period of time without shutting it off at all?

The human heating pads do need a bit of a break, I have mine on a timer set up to be 10 hours on and 4 hours off i believe.

i just use the heat pad no lights except for the flourescent on the top but it gives off no heat.
the human heating pad is just the same as heat tape, or a UTH that you can buy in the pet store except the ones i use have a high, med, and low setting on them. and they have a waterproof protective covering over them. i leave mine run all the time and have not had a prob. i also know other herpers that use them and leave them run constantly as well.

I use repti bark for a substrate, UTH 24/7 except in the summer when it gets above about 80 degrees and a 100w heat bulb.

UTH's for my corns and 1 kenyan, overhead lamp with 100 watt heat bulb for my BCI, and a regular lamp with a regular 60 watt bulb for 2 other Kenyans. For Substrate, aspen for all but the BCI who is on jungle bark.

i use newspaper for all my snakes except my bp and blood witch i use a mulch, i only use it for my bp because i had alot of it left over. i use eather reptile heat pads or heat tape, i find that the heat tape is a good value as long as u alwas have some avalable because you can put together a square foot of it for like 4 bux usd.

I use Newspaper, I have tried aspen, mulch, carefresh, IMO nothing beats newspaper. I have a rack setup for all my adult balls some of which are the sweater boxes, and others are blanket boxes. The best long term rack would be Markus Jaynes ball python Rack www.ballpython.ca I have my monster females in that type of rack
I use heat tape with either a dimmer switch or a helix temperature controler.
But I stress the_most_important_thing is a temperature gun!!!!! a must have.
