Thought this was sort of a cute little pic of my one and only king Ivy! She just finished up a fairly good sized adult mouse. Most of her feeding bump is in the hide but you can sort fo see where it starts.

LOL! Thanks for the comments, about 15 minutes after that photo she seemed to want more food, what a little piggy lol. I then took this photo! She's up to 30 inches now!

Excuse the musk spot on the water dish, she wanted food last night and when i scooped her up to handle her she musked a bit lol.

hey what do you call that colour phase?? i've wanted to know for ages, is it a snow? is it a gost?
Also, what do you have to breed to get that kind of colour? is it amelanistic X anerthristic (lackof black X lack of red)?????

It is an albino. You need a het albino or a pair of het albinos to produce one as far as I understand.

hey i thought albinos (amelanistics) were bright pink with red eyes, she looks a whitish pink which would impley she has a lack of red pigment, imo there is no way she is a normal albino (could u send me a link to the place you bought her?, i doubt they would tell me any way coz most breeders want to keep it a secret)

Kingjaff: She is a normal albino. She used to be very pink when she was a baby, but since then her skin has thickened and the blood vessels are more masked under the skin than they were before(which is what actually causes the pink tone in their skin as far as I understand). Some adult albinos have no pink at all and are solid white with yellow stripes. I actually got her from a Super Pet. There are two near me where the people who are i charge of the reptile section of the store know stuff about reptiles lol.

Jim: Yeah, I was so excited and happy when I got her because she was technically my first snake. I owned two garters prior to her and I messed up with husbandry bad enough for them to die an early death, so I became discouraged and lost interest in reptiles for a few years, but she is what I got when I re-entered the hobby, I being older now and actually knowing how to keep the little guys. My fatal error with the garter snakes was lack of research, only got my info from one book and nothing else and it definitely steered me in the wrong direction, but I was only little at the time.Email me at ravenstone666@hotmail.com and maybe we can talk about meeting somewhere or something.

Andy's right Kingjaff. She's a "normal" albino Calking. Calkings don't have any red on them. They are simply Black and white. If you want a snow, you need to start with a more melanistic Calking (Baja King) bred to a het. or normal albino, and then breed back. The darker color on a melanistic Calking washes out or eliminates the yellow seen on normal albino Calkings. I'm not sure of the genetics behind the "ghosts".

KingJaff: I meant to say that the people who work in the reptile department at those two stores actually know about reptiles for a change, and the two guys actually keep some for themselves.

I'm implying that a lot of big chain stores are purely in it for the money and not for the good of the animals and that is also how the employees are often trained. Usually in the reptile section of the store, people don't care for the animals properly and some don't know how and don't take the time to lean, and worst of all, they sometimes the wrong advice.

For instance, I was in a pet store the other day, I like to have fun with the employees, test them out a bit to see if they are just dishing out crappy incorrect info to sell the snake. They had a ball python in there and I asked about it, handled it and asked this individual what I would need to care for this snake. The person said that all I would need is a fish tank and some paper towels to put on the bottom, and that I would need to feed it mice or rats once every two weeks.

Hope that is a bit clearer for you, I reread what I wrote and noticed that it didn't make much sense lol.
