venomous boots
I recently ordered a pair of "snake proof" boots. As a person that is new to herping and snake hunting I was wondering if these boots are actually bite proof and if they really add the protection you need to avoid being bitten by that one snake you do not see? The claim on the boots is that they will protect against any North American pit vipor.

Any thick tough leather boot will protect you for the most part...... I would get a pair of shin guards to back them up........

The boots I looked at in my search for mine ranged from $69-$200. I guess it is all in how much you want to spend. I did not run into a whole lot of differences in them other than quality. All claimed to be water proof and bite proof (though none of them would actually guarantee 100% protection from a bite getting through). I bought them for peace of mind though you won't be seeing me intentionally testing them.

Rocky Boots
I have the rocky search and rescue boots. They are 15 inches high and I have been very pleased with these boots. They have not been tested in the field, but in controlled tests in our building they have stood up to bites from Eastern Diamondback, Canebrake, Cottonmouth, and Copperheads. Rocky has discontinued this boot for some reason. They are not only making the camo style, I guess they figure you must give up style in order to be protected. =) A few pairs are still on the shelf at the outlet store in OH. I think the price has been reduced to about $60, much less then I paid when they were still in production.

Do you know if anyone guarentees their product? Doubtful, but just a question.

Hmmm. Maybe I should write Rocky. A guarentee would be a great sales tool.
