Im assuming you are referring to Brazilian Rainbows? If so, then the minimum weight/size for females is 2.5 years of age, 5.5 feet, and 3.5+ pounds. Males should be 5 feet and 2.75 pounds, though many are this size at 30 months, they usually wont breed until the next year. Both parties need to be in optimum health as breeding takes alot out of them.

Tough to say.....

If you are rasing a hatchling, I'd totally agree with what Linds outlined. But Rainbows, like humans, are animals. And animals come in a ton of shapes and sizes, even within the species concept. That's like saying a human female can't have a baby unless she's 150 lbs and 5 feet, 5 inches. We both know this isn't a true statement. I've had a Rainbow that was 4 feet long have a litter of babies. Just like a 4 foot human could have a baby.

But if you're raising a CB baby, don't attempt to breed the female until the 3rd season, and the male until the 2nd season.
