For a leopard gecko, it is much cheaper to get a glass aquarium. They are quite cheap now and building a 10 or 15 gallon sized wood enclosure would take up to much time and the materials coudl cost mroe money than jsut a normal aquarium.

Experience is a great advantage. The Problem is that when you get the experience, you're too damned old to do anything about it.
I'd say definately buy one. You can even check the the adds in your local paper, sometimes people are looking to get rid of tanks at real low prices and you could get a larger tank for a better price. Then you can furnish it real nice.
