Help! Severely burned Python!

Hello there. Im new to this sort of thing and just looking for some advice. I own a 23yr old ball python, raised from a hatchling and havent had any real problems, till now. He has been horribly burned from his old heat mat and the skin is peeling off the meat. Ive already taken him to ER Vet and got medication. But hes in the middle of a shed and has nothing to rub on now. Should I hold him? Should I mist him, will that hurt his open flesh? I was told NOT to soak him, for fear of infection, I dont want to give him any more pain. Thanks for any tips or advice.

Hmm. May we see a photo of the burn?

Re: Help! Severely burned Python!

Ask your vet if you can soak the snake in dilute solution of chlorhexidine.

Otherwise, you could potentially provide a damp towel to aid with shedding. It could probably have enough texture to do the trick.
