Re: New sick ball python first time owner

If it's a new snake it's important to wait until the animal has settled in and is eating regularly without refusal. I always suggest waiting until the snake has eaten three consecutive meals without refusal before handling.

Also, if the snake is sick it's definitely best to hold off on handling until the snake is no longer sick.

You misunderstood the question. The question is can they handle the snake after feeding it to give it medication?

My answer is to skip feeding until after medication is done so not to complicate things like this. It could induce the snake to regurgitate the meal.

Whoops, you're absolutely right. My bad.

Anyway, Aaron's reply is spot on. I would have said the same thing had I read the question right.

Re: New sick ball python first time owner

All four of my snakes, that I had treated for various infections (abscess, RI, etc) and required antibiotics, went w/o food per the exotic vet's treatment plan. In each case, that was something like 30 days.

Hence I agree with Aaron's recommendation.
