I've had my hognose 8 months now, for the first time he spread his neck flat to make himself look bigger. His demeanor didn't change, I wonder if he's just happy with his new ability. He looks so cute pretending to be a cobra.
He may have just been startled or something.
It's not a new ability, they know how to huff and hiss and bluff and play dead fresh out of the egg.
Since this is the first time you've seen him hood up I'm guessing you haven't seem him hiss and bluff strike. That's surprising since you've had him 8 months. He must be a pretty chill little hognose.
They are hilarious with their defense antics though. Awesome little snakes
