Well the rat colony finally got things happening, Discovered a nice plump baby in their house this morning.. the question is...how many pups can you expect from first time moms? and how long is the drop period..average..

My first time mothers usually have 5-14 pups in a litter, with 10-16 being the what my more experienced females usually produce. What do you mean by drop period? Do you mean gestation, or how long does it take to give birth to the entire litter?

Between 7-8 is about right per female rat. I breed my own rats and I see anywhere from 20 to 60 pinkies at one time. I breed mice to and they give me more.

Its been a couple of days now and the grand total for babies remains at 1..hmm..maybe better luck next time..no signs of cannabilism

I have had litters of 15.... Not common though. I have 40 rat bins with 1.3 in each and get about 8-10 rat pups at a time.
