Water?

I wanted to discuss water here! I run all my water through a Brita water filter and then I add something call "Reptisafe" back to the water... It got me to thinking, that maybe with my system they weren't getting enough trace minerals... The Reptisafe is supposed to add electrolytes back into the water, but I'm not sure that's enough... So I thought I see what everybody else is doing for water... Tag! Your it...

Re: Water?

I give most of my snakes regular spring water. The larger snakes with water bowls big enough to soak in get tap water.

Re: Water?

Tap water for the snakes, cats, and humans. Seems to work ok for us.

Re: Water?

Tap water all the way. I drink it, the cats drink it, and thus the snakes drink it.

Re: Water?

I use tap water, but I use Reptisafe every other watering, just because. Not sure how it actually affects them given I don't see any physical differences in their activity or anything, but I figure it doesn't hurt to use it. When I got Ghost's setup, it was an Exo-Terra starter kit, and it came with the bottle. So I figured I'd try and see how it goes. I don't see much of a difference, but aside from the drops, I just use tap water. I guess when I run out, I'll get some more? I'm not sure, honestly, ha.

Re: Water?

I live in northern California, where it seems the worst our drought gets, the more chlorine they put in our tape water... It's not that bad this time a year, but a few months back I could smell it... That's when you know it's strong... I run it through my Brita filter... It's supposed to take out everything... I just can't imagine that a constant diet of chlorine being good for us and my animals... I put a lot of water through that thing, I just wanted to make sure my guys were getting enough trace minerals...

Re: Water?

If the water's good enough for you to drink, then it's good enough for them. If you use the Brita for yourself, perhaps you should for them as well. As long as you aren't using distilled water, then trace minerals will be present and all is well. When water was treated with chlorine, all it would take is for you to leave out the tap water for a day and most of it would evaporate, but since the introduction of chloramine (depending on where you live and how water is treated) the removal of chemicals is not as easy as it once was.

I use tap water.
