Sperm retention

Hi there
Just wondered wether boas can retain sperm from other mating like corn snakes can? Sorry for such a weird question

I have heard yes. There have also been documented (but very rare) cases of parthenogenesis.

Keith McPeeks a big time Blood and Short-tail python breeder. Had a female lay a clutch of eggs after not being with a male for close to 10 months. The only thing he could figure was she retained it all that time. Then when she produced follicle the sperm fertilize them.

I've not heard of sperm retention with boa constrictor imperator or boa constrictor constrictor, but I would imagine that it is possible.

Thanks for that everyone,was just curious wether it happened with boas,I was shocked when I mated my anery corn with my snowcorn and she produce 7 hypo babies and two amel corns I mated her last year with my friends hypo and she obviously saved it,but at least I found out she was het amel

Amphogenia retardata is the scientific name for the retention of sperm by female snakes. Part of the thinking is that it occurs bc the female may not be comfortable in the surroundings that she's in and also food supplies are not abundant enough. I believe that account was related to wild animals.
