Very nice indeed. Are you in California? Where did you find him?

Yeah, California. Found him in San Diego county around 5500 feet.

Just a guess but I think they use the colours to bluff their prey into thinking they're poisonous?

Cool! How's the weather up there? I lived in NoCal for a while. Keeping a Arizona mountain King now. They look very similar, nice subspecies. Mine is a young female who just came off a feeding strike. That guy you caught , are you keeping him? Lol.

Coral snakes. Not sure if they have them out that way though.
Edit: Just looked it up and it doesn't look like Corals live out there. Either way, that's the only venomous snake in the U.S. that looks really similar to those.

Re: Zonata
Weathers been warm lately. No, not keeping him. I'm mostly into field herping and not so much collecting. I believe this subspecies is illegal to keep anyways.

You should make a thread for all of your finds. Would love to keep up with them.

Re: Zonata
I don't photo many of my finds. Most of them I video now. Maybe I'll start a 2016 thread.
My youtube channel is growing.....slowly! I have 75 or so herp videos. Some a few minutes, some 40 minutes!
Anyways, if you're bored, you can check it out at

Re: Zonata
Thanks. I really enjoy herping on the occasional Singapore trip I get. There are a few snakes in the Tokyo area, but I've seen most of them. As far as California, there are still a few species I haven't seen. Hopefully this year will be a good one. It's raining here now, so that's good.

Re: Zonata
Yeah I have a few things on my list this year...namely a pygmy rattlesnake and mud snake. I think I have a shot at finding both, but only time will tell.
