Wow - I didn't know BCI's could feed like this
So today is feeding day and I went up earlier to find that Rachel had decided to become a tree (well wire) boa. Not seen her chilling here before but she looked pretty comfy!
An hour and a half or so later and went up with her usual meal - ft small mouse - and was going to entice her down to feed but she just took it whilst still hanging on to the wire!
After she had finished 'killing' it she uncoiled and dangled down about half her body length then pulled herself up and proceeded to support the weight of the mouse on one of her body coils that was round the wire whilst she swallowed it.
Watching her then reposition her body to get it all the way down whilst staying on the wire was incredible.
Wish I had got a few more photos of a video but once she's struck the mouse I like to get out and leave her to it as quickly as possible and had stayed far longer than I usually do just watching her.
Apologies for the sideways second photo!..

Oh and Mink. Look up Snakes n Adders, Sheffield on Facebook. They've just got some stunning hognoses in.
Great thing is they're in England so you can look safe in the knowledge you won't be buying . The low red tricolour they have is particularly stunning...

They've got a stunning Macklot's Python also. As I say, they're in England so no danger of you actually buying from them! Probably a good thing

Very cool. We have a male BCI that will eat like this at the very top of his enclosure(6 feet tall). When I was in Costa Rica, I was lucky enough to witness a large boa hanging off a branch eating a monkey.

I usually fix power cables to the enclosure ceiling, otherwise there are lots of snakes who constantly enjoy unplugging fluorescent light fixtures...

The wire is pretty secure where it exits the viv so she can't pull on it at the moment. It's something definitely worth considering when she's heavier and stronger though.
Will have to see if she is still up there this morning...

Re: Wow - I didn't know BCI's could feed like this
Wow that's pretty interesting. Speaking of odd feeding responses. Mine almost tied himself in a knot trying to eat last week. Luckily he figured out what he was doing wasn't working and gave up and fixed himself and then ate
