Blood python
Just seen these at a zoo and loved the size and girth of them. What are they like as pets heard they were aggressive. Are they good feeders, what's there Max size, set ups, temperatures etc.

Re: Blood python
Best way I've ever heard someone put it is they are for snake lovers. Not reptile lovers.

First time i've heard it put this way, and I couldnt agree more. It makes so much sense it's not even funny.

I'm glad you brought it up actually. I like it. Good snake keeper quote.

Actually it's great way to describe a lot of species, and I really like it!
And unfrotunately I don't have any experience with bloods, but they seem to be for people that have some practice with bigger and heavier snakes (and ofc for people that will be not afraid when the snake is in "bad mood").

That was the first time I have been up close to one it was stunning brown, caramel colour .I'll stick with the boa just now. Will be doing some homework on them. I had a 7 foot bullsnake like that was always on her period

Re: Blood python
At this point it seems like all the reputation that certain snakes have is based on wild caught specimens, otherwise all bets are off in regards to temperament. My son works in a reptile store that has a baby blood python that will bite every time you touch him. Not sometimes. Every time. And once you do hold him he strikes so hard at others that pass by that he actually launches out of your grasp and onto the floor several feet away. Conversely we have a sumatran short tail that is the calmest most placid snake we've ever owned and is more of a lap snake than ever our ball pythons....so......

Re: Blood python
The gaboon python, we had one in the shelter and was pretty calm at first sight.
Would you like to clean his waterdish? Nope, that was not what he had in mind!
Really feisty but so beautiful!

Re: Blood python
My new blood has a real attitude problem but I hope in time to turn him around.

Re: Blood python
I see these guys for sale on the west coast occasionally, and I'm interested in adding them to my collection in the future. When I last chatted about working with anacondas at my local herp store, the owner mentioned bloods required a similar type of patience and that you really need to know how to read them.
I wonder what differences there are between bloods and short tails.
