Unique looking homemade cages?

Hi all. I was browsing the ol world wide web looking for ideas on building a snake enclosure and came across this in a post from a few years back on another forum. Designer Retro Terrarium - Reptile Forums

I was wondering if those of you who are into the DIY cages if you've come across more "out there" ideas like this that are very out of the norm. Doesnt have to be a clean white futuristic setup but just something thats unusual. Thinking outside the box as they say.

Are there sites/forums out there that focus on the creation of these kinds of projects?

While I'm on the subject of cages..I had a random thought about a swiveling cage. Right now my BP cage faces my tv. Im sure he doesnt like my 60" shining brightly in his cage when its on (though he hasnt said anything about it) so I was thinking if I had like an arboreal snake in a more square cage, sitting on a swivel that I could simply turn it around and have it face the wall thus not having a big tv shine on his cage. Is this a terrible idea? Would most snakes be upset by having a view of a living room and HD sports and then suddenly he's looking at a white wall for a couple hours?

Just an off the wall idea

I've completely transformed a desk into enclosure, you can't even tell that it was a desk lol

I would image that someone could take a self-contained shower unit and tip it on its side to make a unique looking cage that was already waterproof and easy to clean. The ends of the shower unit could be replaced with Corian and the door opening for could be replaced with sliding plexi-glass doors.

I think of this every time I'm in a Home Depot. I wouldn't tip it over though. I'd leave it standing.

Holy crap that cage in your link is easily the most interesting I've ever seen. Brilliant design and construction technique. Wow!

I see no problem with your swivel idea, as long as the cage and environment is designed to maximize the health of the animal. There may be some issues with wire routing etc to figure out.

Re: Unique looking homemade cages?

Not exactly homemade, but a friend of mine built it for me. He had a reptile shop here in Germany, but now he specializes in building custom made terrariums with an aluminium frame. Just to give you an idea what would be possible. This is my enclosure where I keep my Spilotes pullatus since 2011.

and here is the link to his web side. Click on "Alu Terrarien Bau", "Aluterrarien – Rohbauten" shows some standard enclosures, "Aluterrarien – Sondermasse" shows some unique customized enclosures and "Aluterrarien in Wohnräumen" shows the finished enclosures at the homes of his customers.
