Found!

I have been avoiding posting about this since it's embarassing, but the story ends well so I thought I'd share. I've got a 4 foot BCI up in my sons room (this was a rescue I took in last year). He's in a large tote, tipped on its side so the door opens forward. The door/lid has two latches, so I thought I was being pretty safe keeping him secure.

Two weeks ago our family returned from a vacation to find the cage door hanging open by one latch and the snake gone. I wasn't too alarmed. It's usually pretty easy to find missing snakes if you think like a snake and if you check every possible spot. My house is pretty new and considerably larger than our last house, so there's not much clutter and it was pretty easy to do a thorough search. But no snake. There was no way he got outside, and no way he got in a vent, etc.

I did a full search every night about an hour after all lights went out figuring he might be on the prowl. Still no snake.

Last night the mystery was solved. My oldest son found the snake in his room, inside an acoustic guitar that was hanging on the wall.

I'm still scratching my head over this. The hole in the guitar was at least a half body length from the nearest perch. I can only guess that the guitar was left on the floor at some point and then hung up without my son noticing the extra weight, though he says it was always on the wall.

Anyway, time to double check all those lids and doors!

Re: Found!

Actually, that's a great story. It shows the tenacity of snakes to escape their enclosures and their ability to find unique places to hide. I'm glad you found it and that it's now safe, sound and secure.
