baby food

hey guys...I was just wondering if you found that individual cresteds have specific preferences for baby food flavours? Mine never really touches peaches or apricots but loves banana!

Try blending some mango and pears. I've never met a crestie who can resist that mix.

Rhacodactylus species seem to have an unnatural fondness for banana. Who knows where they developed the preference for them, since there are no native banana species in New Caledonia. One thing about raw banana is the Calcium/Phosphorus ratio - it's around 6:20 per 100 grams of edible fruit, so use raw(mashed or whatever) banana sparingly. Even commercial banana babyfood isn't all that great, but the added tapioca does turn the ratio around a bit.

Yeah, i've noticed that too, pears always seem to work for me. Most of my cresteds will eat peach baby food if it's mixed with apples, even if they hate the stuff.
I only have one crested that won't touch fruit, I have to mix in meat babyfood or cricket parts first. I've been trying to wean him off this for years... I guess this is my reminder about who really runs the show around here
Bananas are a great treat for cresteds... just keep in mind what DragnDrop mentioned about them.
I'm allergic to bananas, so I let my guys have kiwi, papaya, or strawberries on occasion, they seem to really enjoy it.

Of the 3 flavours of babyfood I have tryed on my two cresteds, banana was by far the most disliked. Apricot seems to be their favorite, and pear is apparently alright, but they never eat as much pear as apricot.

He never touches the peaches....I'd touch it to his snout and he's lick it....but I think I was pissing him off....

He goes for the banana though...and I like the smell MUCH more than peaches...yuck.

I have pear but I haven't opened it yet! I open them one at a time and freeze it because it goes bad too quickly

Thanks guys...

Apricot, blueberry, strawberry, banana, peach, pear, "fruit salad"... Hmm... I'm beginning to think none of mine are picky in regards to flavours. *shrugs* I'm not going to complain.
LATER.

I have a minimum of 17 fruit eating Rhacs, so I make up my own fruit mix. Just take canned fruit (packed in juice), some fresh fruit - whatever is in season, blend it up and freeze in covered ice cube trays. It's much cheaper than babyfood, and there's no tapioca added (not much food value in tapioca, just thickens the mix). Add yogurt once in a while too. Opuntia (cactus pear) and even a bit of sweet squash (Sweet Dumpling is good) can be added. They'll also eat blended carrots, squash, chick peas, dates, figs and other non-gassy veggies and fruit.

be careful with your bananas...don't give too many. i'm not too sure about geckos and potassium, but i know that too much potassium in some lizards could be deadly. bananas are VERY high in potassium...maybe try something with more calcium in it?
