Southern Copperhead
Caught this guy at work back in September. He was super laid back. Never attempted to strike. He was cruising along a retaining wall made out of railroad ties behind a apartment complex. Whats funny is while I was approaching the area I made the comment "I hope everyone brought their copperhead spray." Not 5 mins later there it was right behind us.
The complex backs up to a golf course and has a creek running through it. I figured that if I didnt get him and relocated him someone would probably chop him up or get bit. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Re: Southern Copperhead
Beautiful copperhead! I used to have a really nice pair of Southern copperheads, before PA decided they would no longer differentiate between subspecies and every copperhead was illegal. I miss them; they were really pretty little vipers.

Well done Kim.
I REALLY appreciate that you weren't selfish and just kept them anyway.
Honestly, the highest respect given. (You're still crazy though)

Re: Southern Copperhead
Beautiful snake! I haven't seen a copperhead for awhile. Although none of the ones I have ever seen have been chilled out at all haha.

Re: Southern Copperhead
great job saving him
It's a shame that so many snakes that are SO beautiful have to be venomous. I've always been obsessed with the copperhead's pattern
but since I can't own a real one, I'll have to settle for this one :P

Thanks Aaron. It sucked, but I am not going to keep animals that are illegal. It's very risky, and it's not fair to the animals, because if I were to get into trouble the snakes would be euthanized. I gave them to a guy who has permits for collecting copperheads and can get them out of state safely for me. I hope that they do well and end up in a good home. PA got a new Fish & Wildlife leader who doesn't care for us herp keepers, so I imagine life will be difficult over the next few years.

Re: Southern Copperhead
I love the colors and patterns on these guys! Just a lot leery about the venomous part. I can't believe I've never even seen one in the woods and I've lived here my entire life.
