light cycle

So I hear that a boa needs 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark.

I have a wall of windows so there is a lot of light that comes in during the day, which is fine, but I am usually up at night doing work so it makes the cycle inconsistent.

Could I do something as simple as putting a blanket over the front of the cage during this time?
