my first corn snake
I just got this little sweetheart today. I've been wanting a corn for a long time and finally got one. I got her for free:

Re: my first corn snake
Very nice! I like the yellowish & chesnut near the top and how it goes to darker brown and tan in the middle and back of the snake. Good luck with her.

I still have a soft spot for the normal corns, I just got a new one too that hatched out from my jungle x snow pairing.

Re: my first corn snake
That looks like it could be a nice Okeetee! Congrats on the acquisition! They may be "beginner snakes", but after 20 years in the hobby, I still love them.
I have 2 Extreme Okeetees on the way for next week, as a matter of fact, from Don Soderberg at South Mountain Reptiles.

Re: my first corn snake
Uggh- Dadgummit! This snake is driving me crazy! She's in a good viv with warm and cool hides, I haven't pestered her. She has eaten on her own, but continues to be a problem feeder.
She is out now and has been most of the day (that I know of). She is avoiding the warm side of the viv. Everything tells me she is hungry. I didn't offer her any food last night but she was out the two nights previously and ignored the pinkies I put in each night. She needs to eat.
I have decided to name her Karen because she may well wind up with the same fate as Ms. Carpenter if she doesn't eat soon. Time to go back to trying different things again. It's just frustrating. ..... I thought she was past this and not something I'm used to. ....

Re: my first corn snake
with my lavender (she is picky sometimes) usually if i put her in a separate container and "tease" her with the pinky, she takes it...sometimes it takes a while but she rarely totally refuses...is the pinky warm enough? hers has to be straight out of the warm water..if it cools for more than a minute or 2 i have to reheat it or she totally loses interest...

Re: my first corn snake
I tried chopping one up last night. No dice. I was going to boil 1/2 of it but didn't. I'm going shopping in a little while for a small live pinkie (preferably a red) and give that a try. I'm hesitant to do very much interaction with her at this point given her history, but that will be coming soon if she doesn't eat, but I really want her to feed on her own.
I fed my other snake last night- she was getting 4 adults but she told me that wasn't enough because she would prowl for a half hour after. I gave her 5 and she had them eaten and was in her hide in under 15 minutes.
