Where did Ambers' shed go?
My cornsnake shed this week, either Tues. or Wed. She was in her tank the entire time. I had taken her out Mon. night and she was very milky looking. I looked for her shed in her tank, but found none.  It's weird. I overturned everything, dug around. She is on bioactive substrate, but it wouldn't get broken down that quickly. Does anyone know where her shed may have gone?

I've noticed my snakes get milky, then turn normal then shed. If the eyes are clear your corn snake should be ready to shed.

i agree every one else. Your bio active soil would not have broken it sown that fast and snake do not eat their sheds like some lizards.

Thanks for your insights. Apparently then, she has not shed yet. How can her eyes be so clear and she look so shiny? I thought that when the snake was dull and milky, they were ready to shed and it had to come off before they looked brilliant and shiny. Does anyone know why this happens? It is really strange / fascinating. I'm learning something new everyday.

Soak her too. right before they shed and their eyes clear up, soaking them is extra beneficial and helps them out a lot

There really is no need to soak them if their humidity is correct.

Once the blue goes away, every snake looks normal right before it sheds. Your snake is doing what every other snake does, this is normal.

^ If you have shedding problems, that's how you know to adjust your humidity. Not all snakes shed the same at care sheet humidity.

Even if the humidity is correct, a good soak doesn't hurt.

That really depends on the snake. Some will stress out by being forced to soak.

Thanks for the good insights. I'm going to mist her tonight (she seems to like this) and if she doesn't shed overnight, I'll soak her tomorrow. She moves around a lot when soaked; I can't tell if she's stressed by it or just stimulated to move around. She's never had any problems shedding before without soaks and I can't believe I hadn't picked up on the fact they look brilliant BEFORE they shed. The humidity has been getting pretty low during the day lately so I'll probably put a wet towel over the tank screen when I put the basking lamp on again in the morning.

the snakes look pale blue because fluid and enzymes are building up between the old and new layers of skin, this is why mammals with edema in the eye appear to have pale, milky eyes, due to pressure from too much fluid in between layers of the eye. The pressure from this fluid makes the skin appear opaque.
As the skin stretches and the connections are broken down between the old and new skin, it appears clear again, since there is not as much pressure. Then the snake will shed its skin, hopefully in one big piece, several days after you first noticed the blue.
