Smile Father used to have a 13' retic. Her name was shokura.

She is actually the reason I decided to get a ball python. Unfortunately she died around 5 years ago. From what I remember my dad took great care of her but she just got sick. But anyways, it may have not been the safest thing to have a 13' retic roaming the house but it sure was fun. Funniest story I have of her is that one day while I was taking a shower all of a sudden I see her head pop under the shower curtains. She comes into the tub and takes up most of the shower. I'm mostly comfortable with her but I am VERY CAUTIOUS of a giant snake while I'm exposed in the shower. So she basically takes up most of the tub and I get a small corner. She bit me once when I spooked her. I was coming around a corner too fast and pop right in the foot. But she let go almost immediately, hardly broke the skin. Great snake, I really miss her. Just thought this was the place to share.

I hope you understand that it is irresponsible and dangerous to have a snake that can kill you free roaming, or any exotic snake for that matter. This is part of the reason why we have the lacey act, iresposible keeping practices. I know I'm not the only one thats felt this way after reading this. I understand this is no longer the case, and this is in the past. But for anyone that reads this and thinks "oh cool, that sounds awesome" they need to know this is a BAD idea. The only snake that should be roaming free in your house should be one that's found it's way in from outside, and no one should handle a 13 foot python on their own. Forgive me if this seems like an attack, it's not. just don't need anymore laws enacted on our hobby.

All I can say is that I totally agree with you. It ended on a good not but there was always the chance that it couldn't and that could've been a costly mistake. As an adult I realize that it shouldn't have been left to roam about even if it is a docile snake. Because of the off chance it might not be docile. I hope nobody takes this and decides to let there snake roam loose. It is a very bad idea and I'm lucky nothing worse happened. As far as I'm concerned all snakes should be treated with a level of caution, and that goes for just about any wild/exotic animal. To give more insight the snake was always supervised to some degree and when my younger siblings where born she was let out only on certain occasions. Also the enclosure she was in was a proper setup for a retic her size.

I'm glad that you now see that it wasn't the best decision! I wish you and your Ball Python luck, and I can't wait to see pictures and/or updates from you!
