Looking into a new addition

Recently we've lost power for a few days over here (in the entire city), and were unable to keep enough heat in my savannah monitors enclosure, leading him to pass away. I've been thinking for the past couple of days of a lizard that I could get and grow an attachment to like my sav (Spencer). I would love something bigger than the average lizard, and a little more unusual. One lizard that has caught my attention for the past couple of months has always been the tegu.

I wanted to know out of owners experience any tips and information on them before I get one. What size enclosure do they need at full size, what is the best diet for them, lighting, humidity, etc. How hard they are to take the best of care for..all of that.

I have an enclosure set up (6x2 feet), keeps in humidity really well. That would be his enclosure while he's growing up, until he outgrows it. I'm planning on building him a new official one once I move out (a couple of months to 2 years). Would that be okay?

I'm going to spend the next while researching before jumping into getting such an animal, as I don't know much about them yet, and if I could afford to care for one as well as they need; both financially, and physically.
