Green Iguana

a co worker of mine is giving me
her 1yr old iguana(she's not exactly sure of the
age) she's moving & doesn't want
to take it with her, she's giving me
the whole setup & everything, she knows
I love reptiles so she thought of me,
but from what she has told me she has been very basic with her, so she might be in
bad shape, so its pretty much a rescue, kinda?
but I was wondering if Anyone can give me some good pointers? I did most of the research on them but those of you that have one, can you give me more of a hands on approach. A good Care Sheet? I'm picking her up
tomorrow so ill post pics then. I appreciate the advice in advance

Re: Green Iguana

You need a cage...a big one. At least 6' long x 3' wide x 6' tall. Even small ones will grow into it fairly quickly.

Re: Green Iguana

Very moody lizards. Very smart too in my experience. I used to have one that would respond to his name. But yea huge enclosure is needed your looking at approx 15" lizard in first year. 2-3 foot in second. Males can reach 4-5 foot. I've heard of 6 foot but never seen. You need a very varied diet as with any lizard. Collard greens work good as a staple in my opinion. Theyre messy eaters, messy poopers, and they blow snot out of their nose every once in a while lol.

Overall if you have the time and dedication they are totally worth it. They are my favorite animal, since I was 6. Not favourite reptile or pet.. Favourite animal ever. But we got bylaws here -.-

Re: Green Iguana

Well she told me it hasn't grown since she's had em
& she gave me a description of her & she's not
Very big at all, but she told me all she feeds her is
Romaine lettuce? I know I'm going to
Have to do alot of nursing for this one lol
I don't mind cuz I know I'm saving her pretty much!
& my co worker has only handled her twice in ONE year???
I'm like great lol
Is there any good care sheet that you guys know of??

Re: Green Iguana

I despise caresheets. There's too much information on any species to fit on a piece of paper.

I recommend James Hatfield's book, The ultimate Manual for green iguanas.

Re: Green Iguana

Best of luck. Hopefully you can provide her with the necessary space. Read as much as you can before hand
