ohhh boyy
So I haven't been on here in a long time, been busy with school and going through some processes for a hopeful career, however in the mean time i've been working at a local pet store with a small reptiles section. now this is my dilemma, we had two bp's in and we do routine checks of animals 2 times a day. one of the bp's sold and the owner called us two days later claiming it had mites... after checking the bp's again since they are in the same room it was confirmed. my question is if I (and other employees) checked these guys as well as the other animals 2 times a day how did they get mites? my only idea would be hitch hikers coming in. not sure if i answered my own question but i went over these guys quite a bit as one had some stuck shed and i had bathed him without seeing anything... they were on paper towel and all husbandry was correct. they had been in our care for several weeks since hatching and there had been no mites.
time to get to cleaning the entire store i guess...

Good to see you back on here Sean. Sound like you got it under control. My guess would be some one with reptile could have come in and they hitched a ride on them. My guess is one of your customers has snakes at home with mites.

Yup I would agree. As a pet store you are open to having guests as often as people show up with hitch hikers on there cloths. Learn to kill them as this won't be the only time this happens

Re: ohhh boyy
Perhaps when the woman came in to buy the bp she actually gave the other one mites from a collection at home?

Re: ohhh boyy
For every 1 mite that you do see, there are several more that you don't see, so if there was 1 hiding in a heat pit on it's snout, or tucked-in around it's eye (both very common spots), it would be *very* easy to overlook it and in the meantime, the several you don't see 'cause they're too small have been living comfortably under scales and growing as they feast on the snake's blood and voila - before you know it, you've got a visible infestation.
