anyone who has or had a amazon...

what do you all think about amazons? are they very nasty? have you had one that was nice? i'm thinking about getting one, but so far heard mostly negative things. i also heard negatvie things about bloods, especially reds, and i got one. a red. he's the easiest i have temperment wise. also heard baby jungle carpets were nippy, again, i got one and never one bite attempt. so i'm trying to get more opinions on amazons. i'd like a challenge, but not an impossible one. so far my biggest challange was my "nippy baby jungle" that never bit.

all opinions greatly appreciated...

For the most part Amazon Tree Boas are aggressive but there are many that can tolerate handling well. I find that most Amazons are the most aggressive when first approached, ether by reaching in the cage or by sudden movements. Simply using a snake hook and pulling them out of the cage first can be much easier. They are calmer when in your hands afterwards. (Some not all)

The best way to keep Amazons tame is to simply purchase a neonate or sub-adult and work with it from there. CB verses wild caught are also a better chance at being tame although I've seen both. Best of luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks,

I would advise you only to purchase a ATB knowing that you will get a snake that strikes. If you dont want a snake that will strike or are getting one hoping you can tame him down, dont bother. In my opinion anyways... If your looking for a great display snake that has a chance of being handlable then i'd say go for it
