Taking reptiles into Canada?

I've been considering a possible move to Canada in the next few years. What are the ramifications of taking my herps with me? Are australian species going to be a problem? If anyone has been through this process, I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Well to begin with what do you have for herps and where are you located.

I live in Kentucky, currently, and by that time will probably have 20+ snakes, all morelia. Right now I have jungles and bredli, but also getting into irian jayas and chondros.

gotta get into the CITES stuff.. to save your self the trouble (if you aren't too attached), you should just sell them and buy new ones when your here.

yeah.. all morelia are CITES listed.. that means lots of paperwork :P..

the only downside is that here in canada, we don't have quite the selection as our neighbours to the south have. things are getting a lot better thou.. so, I'd advise taking a good solid look at the canadian market and see what is available. Just my $0.02

It'll be atleast 4 months for export CITES paperwork and it probably won't be granted as they are austrailian.

I agree with the other posts that the paperwork might not be worth the hassle. If the Animals in question are captive born than you would have to go to the breeders and have them state that these animals were cb and where the parents originated from and the paperwork for the parents might have to be supplied. If an animal is wildcaught than the papertrail isn't that hard to find, but I once brought a Timor Monitor into Canada from the states and the paperwork took over 4 months to do. There are lots of Morelia species available in Canada with the paperwork already done .

Well I guess getting a fire certificate outta Canada is out of the question.
