I know a person that use to keep skunks but since they are illegal to keep in Ontario, they do not anymore.

Yes for those of us in Canada, you need
a zoo or special permit to keep one.
If it was ever seized they are put to sleep.
a word of caution,
Mardy

Don't forget, there are other skunk species than the one native to Ontario...You may not be able to keep a native one, but you might be able to get an "exotic" one. Of course, your local by-laws will likely have something to say about keeping any
mustelids
at all.
Cheers,
Simon

True, we are not allowed to keep any wildlife up here in Montreal.
My brother use to have a skunk as a pet, and even with the glands take out, they still have a little smell to them. Kinda like certain dogs I guess (basset hounds have an odd smell since they secrete an oil on their fur to keep the skin dry from the rain).
Anyhow, they are good pets, learn faster than a dog, especially on how to get to what they want.

The main problem is the finding one! I have been looking forever and still can't find one..
As for the smell - beleive its the glands on their legs that give them their odor.. kinda like a ferret.. it still smells but not horrible, just a distinct smell
If anyone finds a breeder in canada.. let me know as well
