Help identifying these snakes

The black snake almost got a hold of the family dog (it was shot out of fear unfortunately). But i was wondering what kind of snake it was? As for the brown snake, it was caught and released unharmed. I was also wondering if someone could identify it as well. I am in Galveston county if that helps any.
