What to get - first lizard
I was thinking of getting my first lizard but I've never had one before. I have a spare 5ft x 2ft x 2ft wooden viv with front glass sliding doors and wondered if anyone could suggest something that would be ok in that size enclosure.

There's lots of things you could get, bearded dragon, frilled dragon, uromastyx, I'd say ackie monitors but you don't have enough space for that ( depth of dirt wise ) , leopard geckos are interesting little lizards as well ( very curios little creatures)

Perfect size for a blue-tongued skink. They are medium-sized lizards, docile, great for handling, Opportunistic omnivores, forgiving captives that do well on a variety of subsrates and diets. They can even be potty-trained!

They sound interesting, would a youngster be ok in that size enclosure?

Chinese water dragon. I rescued one and i am very glad i did. He makes me laugh every day.

I believe he meant that sized enclosure would be appropriate for an adult. Probably a few adults. You might also consider bearded dragons, very personable, fun to watch and easy to care for.

They would definitely use the space and would grow into it in a matter of a year or so. Its not like they're going to freak out and go off feed like a ball python.
And like SMY said, the cage is plenty large enough for a pair or a trio, too.

Other species to consider are: desert iguanas, plated lizards, European legless lizards (Sheltopusiks), Columbian tegu, water dragons,....with a cage that size, you can do a lot, as long as you avoid the giants like full-sized monitors, Argentine tegus, green iguanas, and other lg iguanas.

Frilled dragons are pretty neat, very active and will use every inch of space. heres a picture of mine when it was a baby. sorry for poor quality.

I had my frilly in a 4x2x2 but having kept one would never use a viv with less than 3ft height.

I'd recommend a bearded dragon, I think one would do nicely in that size enclosure.

For that size cage, I would go with either bearded dragon or a uro. Both are great and usually not shy about being active during the day when you can watch them.

You could easily keep a beardie or an ackie in that size enclosure. Or if you chose to, you could set up a pretty serious gecko colony in there.

Beardies get my vote as well, i will say I have a Spiny tail iguana (one of the desert species student mentioned) and while the little guy is great to watch, he out right looses his mind every time the cage opens. Great for display but i havent even tried to handle him.

For an easily handled lizard that's also easy to look after, you also can't go past a blue tongue.

I ended up with Yemen Chameleon, a young male. The wife picked him out so I had little choice
