How long is too low?

How low of a tank / tub / enclosure is too low for a small terrestrial species of gecko?

Still haven't decided on an enclosure type for my new geckos unfortunately and I need to decide by tomorrow. I might just end up making something...

I don't keep geckos but I would think a 15-20 gallon would be ok for a dwarf species to get the correct range in temps.

I just realized that my title has a mistake. I meant how LOW is too low. Haven't a rough couple days lol They are adult amyae and its a pair. Would like 3 feet by 1.5 wide but I was worried about how much height I need to provide.

i imagine they wont use anything much over 8 inches off the ground; but it all depends on your furniture/decorations/heat. if you are using bulbs you may need them a certain distance away to get your temps: hence, more height. I would make it at a minimum 1.5 body lengths taller than your substrate, or the tallest decoration/stack touching the wall.

Think ill just house them seperately till I buy a 40 breeder or find an equivalent for cheap. Spent so much on them I dont wanna spend anymore where its not necessary. 2 x 20 G longs will suffice for the moment.

I always have glass enclosures come and go. I just gave away a heavy old 75 gallon that was in my back yard to some drug addict who said he wanted to put fish in it. Figured it was an easy way to get it out of my yard and told him to take it lol

Craigslist has like 5 million fish tanks, for 1 dollar a gallon or cheaper, but I hate dealing with craigslisters. I'll wait for a petco sale :P (speaking of that on an unrelated note, 2 petcos in my area have brazilian rainbow boas and one of them has a huge adult cuban knight anole for 75% off (8 dollars with tax...he was dying and I felt really bad but I don't buy animals from petco)

What kind of geckos are they?

1.1 centralian knobtails. The female is a ready to breed virgin female from steve sykes and the male is a proven breeder from a european red line. Got a decent deal on both

Knobtails don't climb at all.

I'd figure safe clearance for them to stand and hunt and move around is enough. A very small gecko species as it is. I'd say 4 inches from top of substrate.

Just gonna do an inch , maybe 1.5 and a tupperwear with a thick layer of sand. Gonna grab a 3 foot x 1.5 foot rubbermaid, I think its the 72qt but its only 6 inches tall and throw a flexwatt on a thermostat.

I was suggesting 4 inches of clearance from the top of the substrate to the lid.

So probably a 6 inch total height thing.

Tub sizes they are generally kept here (individually)... 30 litres.

Equivalent floor space and height (approx)

60cm x 40cm x 25cm.

They will climb is you provide them rock ledges or low branches that they can get a grip on.
