If anyone remembers, I've had an awful time with tegus. Not eating, whipping, thrashing, hiding 24/7 even when left alone. Always making sure my husbandry is as good as possible... It's finally going well.

This guy is FINALLY eating like a monster, growing well, constantly out and about. He still hates my face but we're working on that. We have a completely hands off relationship and I'm working on building trust with him. He finally takes food from tongs (even jumps for it) so I'm using that to my advantage. All is well. His new, giant enclosure is taking longer than expected due to myself having to take a week off of work from a back injury.

Hopefully he doesn't grow too fast haha

He readily eats mice, rats, chicks, sardines, crickets, worms (except super worms) and I'm looking into crayfish. Hopefully since it's summer I can find some at the cottage. We're also working on getting more vegetation and fruit in his diet.

In these photos he'd just demolished a couple nightcrawlers, dandelion (which I'm surprised he ate) and now quail eggs (I can only find boiled ones, bleh). These are a treat. I can't find them that often and my dogs eat them as well.

I have to get a video of him jumping and pounding back nightcrawlers and f/t rodents. He's got some cool moves when it comes to food. lol

He's been trying his damn best to rip out all of this grass and moss. Destructive little bugger

Cool! Where did you get that large hide in the last pic? And where did you get that soil?

The hide is an XL ExoTerra Cave. It's not incredibly large but provides a nice structure in the soil.

And the soil is from my backyard mixed with playsand and Eco Earth.

It's Great that he/she is eating. I recommend you try lots if food to know what's his favorite. When my tegu was jumpy and hissing I five her a warm bath , on my tub. This calms them a lot. The you can pet him very gently, to add more comfort I feed my tegu with salmon soaked on eggs. Also
I recommend y use a towel to wrap him around, this brings comfort to them. I will post some pictures to make my self clear. And remember tegus are very intelligent, you need lots of patience. Regards gus
